I have lived in three foreign countries, in which the citizens have many fewer freedoms than we Americans have. I knew when my kids returned home from Haiti that they would never complain again. In Latin America, many of their problems are caused by our drug policies, or lack thereof, hence folks want to move up here.
We take for granted that we are pretty safe walking around in our own neighborhoods. We don't have to worry about gangs absconding with our daughters. Nor do we have to make payoffs to gangs for running our businesses.
In America, we have just gone through a contentious election with unknown and possible dangerous consequences. In the past we have risen to maintain our republic and the safety of our citizens. I'm confident we can continue on a democratic track. Giving thanks for all our blessings, including our neighbors, and taking responsibility for our actions will help assure that.
Lord, grant us strength, resilience and perfectly cooked Turkey!
